Benefits of Cloning Human Organs
There are many benefits for using cloned organs during transplants-
- Therapeutic cloning can help create vital organs. Even though cloning human organs is not efficient enough to produce mass amounts of organs, researchers use cloned pigs that organs can be transplanted to humans.
- When organs are made out of a patient's own cell, doctors do not have to worry about organ or tissue rejection by the immune system of the patient.
- Stops the wait time for organs and patients then do not risk losing their life while waiting for an organ. An average wait time for a new kidney is 5 years.
- Therapeutic cloning may be helpful for treating diseases. By creating cloned cells that were previously destroyed by degenerating diseases such as Parkinson's and multiple sclerosis, doctors could regenerate human tissue.
- Organs would have an exact match of the patient's DNA. There will be no issue with using different blood types to donate.
- No need for organ donors and no surgery required for the donor party. In August 2008, more than 99,000 people were on waiting list for organs. 78% of organs received were from deceased patients.
- Allows for researchers to test cures for certain diseases, such as, Parkinson's and diabetes.
- Researchers can study the regeneration of organs.
